Cyst Removal / Age Spot / Skin Tag / Wart Removal
Cyst removal, wart removal and the removal of other skin blemishes, such as skin tags, can be done quickly and easily with plasma pen. (Note that larger warts may take more than one treatment).
I can also remove moles, provided a doctor has confirmed that it is safe to do so. This is because very occasionally moles can be a sign of malignant melanoma.
What does the cyst removal treatment involve?
For cyst removal to take place, I must first numb the skin with a lidocaine cream so that the treatment remains comfortable. I am then able to burn the cysts / warts / blemishes off with a plasma pen. The plasma pen cauterizes as it goes so there is either none or minimal bleeding.
The wound left is very superficial and usually heals without a scar, although full healing takes longer on the body than on the face. This is because the rate of cell renewal is slower on the body.
Who will benefit from the treatment?
Anyone who has cysts / skin tags / warts / cherry angiomas or age spots that they would rather they didn’t have would benefit from their removal.
I can remove blemishes from anywhere on the body as long as they aren’t incredibly close to the eye itself.
Who should not have the treatment?
Anyone with impaired healing, such as someone with severe diabetes, should check with their doctor first.
Lesions can be removed from darker skinned people. However in darker skinned people, the skin may darken afterwards (hyperpigment). If this could be a problem then it’s not for you.
This is not an exhaustive list and a full consultation will be carried out before treatment to make sure that this is the right option for you.
What can’t it do?
It’s not suitable for removing infectious skin blemishes such as boils or spots. I also cannot remove lumps that are seated under the skin, they must be stand proud on top of the skin as in the photos on this page.
If you are in any doubt about whether your cyst is suitable for removal with plasma pen please send me a clear photo or book a consultation so I can advise.
How long does it last?
It’s generally long lasting. For skin tags, the skin tag removed has gone forever, but new skin tags can grow. Cysts generally don’t grow back. However, I never go deeper than the epidermis (the top layer of the skin) when I remove these lesions, so it’s possible they could grow back after a number of years. Age spots are caused by sun exposure, so keeping out of the sun / wearing factor 50 sunblock is the only way to prevent new age spots appearing. The original ones that were removed will not “grow back”.
Note that warts are caused by a virus and any treatment will not get rid of the virus. What we are hoping for with a treatment, is that damage to the wart will boost the immune system to clear the virus. Whilst I’ve had some good results with wart removal, success cannot be guaranteed. I do not remove verrucaes.
